Frequently Asked Questions

1. We don't live in your catchment area; are we likely to get a place?

Our catchment area would never fill a class; we take 30 children in EYFS and most years the majority of the class are children who live outside of our catchment area.

In 2022 - 2023 intake:

3 children in our catchment area

10 children are siblings

17 children non-catchment area (decided by distance from the school)

2. Does the school offer breakfast and after school care?

Unfortunately, we do not have the facilities to provide wrap around care. However, Twirlies and Twilight (run separately from the school) do offer breakfast club and after school provision. These childcare providers run from the Scout Hut which is next to the school and will walk the children to school in the morning and will collect them from school at 3:15.

The school (pre-COVID) run teacher led and outside provider after school clubs. These clubs include, but are not limited to, Choir, sports clubs, arts and crafts, cooking, judo, dance and First Touch Football.

3. What time can I drop my child at school?

Usually, the school gate opens at 8:25am and the children are able to play on the school playground from this time. They are supervised by a class teacher until the bell is rung at 8:45am for the start of Registration.

4. What are assemblies like at the school?

We have an assembly everyday. On a Monday the Headteacher leads assembly and this is linked to either our value or focus for the half term, a story from the Bible, a religious festival or a world event. Tuesday's assemblies are lead by the children in the form of class assemblies where classes take it in turns to share their learning with the rest of the school (parents are invited to attend these). On Wednesdays a team from local churches deliver assemblies called 'Open The Book' where stories from the Bible are acted out and explored with the children. Thursday's assemblies are our singing assemblies, lead by Miss Mitterhuber, to support the children in learning hymns and songs and developing their singing abilities. We end the week with our Celebration assemblies; these involve celebrating our Stars of the Week and the achievements of our children in and out of school.

Each assembly ends with a quiet moment of reflection and an act of collective worship; all children are invited to participate in this.

5. Which feeder schools do your child tend to go on to?

The majority of our children go to:

Amersham School

Chesham Grammar

Chiltern Hills

Dr Challoners' Grammar

Dr Challoners' High

The Misbourne

6. What do the children have for lunch?

Currently our hot school meal are provided by AiP. All children in EYFS and KS1 are entitled to free school meals. There is a good variety of dishes on offer and there is always a meat, vegetarian and jacket potato option. Parents choose these weekly online.

7. What languages do you teach?

We teach French from the start of KS2. The school also offers a paid lunchtime French club called La Jollie Ronde.

8. Can my child learn to play a musical instrument?

From KS2 children can learn to play guitar, piano and a variety of brass and woodwind instruments. Lessons can be either in groups or individual and are paid for by parents.
